» Oceanic Pigmentation

‘Oceanic Pigmentation’ is a series of photographic works that explore the dichotomy of colourisation and monochromatic bleaching within the ocean.

In the 21st century the immediate threat of climate change and global warming is witnessed through the bleaching of coral marine life and various disorientated migration patterns. My Photographic series further illustrates this warning through the vibrant pigmentation of watercolour surrounding shells to mimic the vast momentum of coral bleaching within tropical areas. Thus the container of predominantly white shells represent the majority of bleached corals.

This series was taken by using a container of freshwater filled with shells, which watercolour was then added. The series of images show the ephemeral qualities of the watercolour as it spreads and as the vibrancy of the colour dissipates into the surrounding environment and water. Which in turn symbolises the short life cycle of the marine ecosystem and its vanishing beauty.
